Trail kindness

Yesterday I hiked in heat, and it was a long afternoon. I was by myself, and there were no shelters so I would be camping trailside. I was coming on my stopping point and my shirt was drenched in sweat. I enjoy company in the evenings, so I wasn't looking forward to camping by myself. I was also worried about my pack ripping near the hipbelt, so I was trying to carry more weight on my shoulders to take stress off of my hipbelt until I could get somewhere to repair it with heavy duty thread, which I did not have.

I arrived at my stopping point after 20 miles, and hit big trail magic - a cooler full of ice! The iced drinks were soooo good and sooo unexpected. Shortly after that, a couple who had started in Georgia came to the campsite, so I was glad to have company. On top of that, the couple had some heavy duty thread and the woman repaired my pack. Life is good and the trail is full of wonderful folks.

Terrific example of how giving is repaid. Sam gave his water to two in need the day before. Only fitting this kind soul took care of his packs problem on this day.

You're very close to where I grew up Sam - Danbury CT. I'm really enjoying your adventure; it's something I've always wanted to do since I was 16 but never had the experience or follow through to make it a reality. I'm very proud of your goal and motivation. Your BLOG is awesome for demonstrating the principle of "It's the journey not the destination" - Keep on trekin....

Hi Sam, Norm here.

Sounds like you are having a great trek so far, I envy you - enjoy it!!

As someone else said Karma has a way of coming back around - keep paying it forward and you'll never know what will come back to you.

You are in our Prayers.
