Hey Everybody! Welcome to the blog I'm keeping as I hike the Appalachian Trail. I'll be updating it throughout my hike to keep everyone informed on where I am , whats going on, etc. I am not sure how frequently I will be posting; that will just be hammered out on the trail.
My plan is to hike the entire trail in a flip-flop fashion. I'll be starting in the middle, hiking my way north to Katahdin in Maine. Then I will journey back to the middle and hike south to Springer Mountain in Georgia. I'm hoping to finish early November, for a total of around 5 months. After finishing in Maine, I will be home visiting for a week or so. That will be in early September, then I will be heading back to Haper's Ferry, WV, where I started, to finish the rest. For some background on the trail, just google it. A couple short facts; its 2178 miles long stretching from Springer Mountian in north Georgia to Baxter Peak, Katahdin in Maine; it passes through 14 states.
The weather forecast calls for thunderstorms on the first day of hiking, so I'll be wasting no time pulling out the raingear! Packing has been a task, but I can never complain about getting so much new, cool gear. I'm anxious to start. It's been a long time of anticipation and planning, so I'm ready to get on the trail.
Some of you have also had the privilege of meeting my mascot, Rocky the flying squirrel, who has been strapped to my pack for the past several years. He will be on my pack this hike too, so that's the with Rocky part of the title.
